http://www.aitype.com/

Hi,

Communicating with text editors requires special development. We support now Office, Notepad, WordPad, Skype, Windows Live Messenger, the 3 major browsers and some other applications. All were addressed by our developers, investigated, tested etc.

Supporting 3rd party applications such as eMDs requires us to install it, investigate how to communicate with its free text editor and developing a Connector. We will definitely do that one day, but we have to first support more widely used editors such as Lotus Notes or Open Office.

We do have a model that will allow supporting this tool and taking the text prediction in it one step forward: A.I.type has an enterprise version, which is installed at your organization and has its predictive text knowledge based on the organizational terminology. In your case I guess it means allowing A.I.type’s server to read medical documents, electronic books and maybe websites, learn how texts look like in this world, then autocomplete you with the right medical terminology and context sensitivity. In this enterprise model, we also provide connectors to the organizational tools (for example: eMDs).

If this is relevant, I’ll be happy to get into details.

Best regards,

I have been burnt twice with hardware RAID failures and once with a software Raid failure.

I am thinking of giving one of these two a try:

Reader Raharazod suggests forgoing a RAID array and using ZFS—a file system and logical volume manager—instead:

To be honest, after doing a lot of research into RAID arrays, I decided it was too scary. If a hardware RAID card dies, you lose all your data. If your motherboard in a software RAID array dies... you lose all your data.

Not to mention, as disk sizes grow to 2TB, there is a relatively high chance of unrecoverable failure for sectors. This can again cause you to lose all you data. Upwards of 30% chance of complete data loss. Too high of a risk for me.

Solution? Well, it's not the best option now, but I ended up using a linux distro with ZFS (alternatively BTRFS is now included in the linux kernel and individually you can evaluate it's stability for your use).

The reasoning? ZFS is entirely software based... and if one drive in a ZFS pool dies, you can recover your data. It also does checksumming, so while you're writing your data, it checks to make sure it's valid, and if it's not, repairs it from the data parity. Plus, because it's software, it can be (and I have) transported in it's entirety to a different machine. To boot ZFS also allows you to dynamically add and remove disks from an array. It's really working out well for me. Once I set it up, I haven't had to mess with it since. Granted, it's not as fast as a native filesystem (it's running through FUSE), but for media storage, it's plenty fast enough.

Finally, we had quite a few suggestions for unRAID, but nightwalker_12 sums it up pretty well:

Unraid is a software based RAID 4-5-ish system, using 1 parity drive to keep track of an array of up to 20 (I have a max of 16) drives.

Drives can be any size equal to or smaller than the parity, so you can mix and match some left over but still functional drives you have around, and drives can be added as required (or replaced with larger ones) without having to trash and rebuild the array. No special controllers required, but it does take a dedicated machine. Only special hardware requirement there is that it's bootable off a USB flash drive, so again, any older or unused hardware can be used for the server.

It's a NAS, so connects over the network; works with ethernet up to gigabit, theoretically wireless also (though, why?). Server can be headless (usually is) as the primary control system is web based and thus OS independent.

Best part, if there is a multi drive failure, since the data is not striped over the array in the manner of a traditional RAID controller but is written as is in the ReiserFS file system, what's left on the remaining drives is still intact and salvageable. System can be set with a cache drive for quicker data writes during the day, allowing for slower array integration and parity at night/during downtime.

There is a large host of plugins you can get for it as well to facilitate streaming to 360s, remote access, setting up web, file, and email servers. Really, anything you can run on a Linux system, it can run.

Thanks to the efforts of www.Jumpdesktop.com and www.ritescript.com, the iPad now has the ability to utilize handwriting recognition!

For several weeks now I've been using my iPad in conjunction with my Writepad EMR and being able to hand write into my EMR or any other windows application!

f you're planning on buying or upgrading more than one Microsoft product in a year's time, consider a TechNet Standard subscription. For $200, you get, essentially, 100 installations of Windows, Office, and other Microsoft apps.

Windows writer Paul Thurrott points out the recent $200 TechNet Standard addition to Microsoft's subscription-based software offerings as a savings over buying boxed copies, or even hunting down student and professional discounts for very specific options. With TechNet Standard, you get real, unlimited, lifetime activations of Windows and Office products, and as Thurrott points out, it covers a whole lot of computing:

It's for multiple installs. Each product key can be used to install up to 10 versions of the OS or application, for the most part. But that's actually 100 (yes, 100) installs for each Windows 7 product edition, because you can activate each key 10 times. So you get 100 installs of Windows 7 Ultimate, 100 installs of Windows 7 Professional, 100 installs of Windows 7 Home Premium, and so on.

It's notable that the Standard subscription is intended for one person, and for non-commercial use. Still, if there's one person in your household that just happens to administer all the computers, well, a one-year TechNet subscription sounds cheaper than buying Family Packs or individual upgrades.

If you know of another quiet but legitimate software deal, by all means—share it in the comments.

My partner of 29 years retired and so I had to change the phone bill from his name into my name. ATT insists that in order to do this, I had to terminate my existing DSL connection and all assoicated email addresses!! In other words, ATT refused to make a database name change without FIRST terminating the DSL connection! OK, so as to not have interrupted Internet access, I had to add a new DSL line, in my name and then make sure that line is working properly before terminating the old line. This would insure that there I would have access to the internet for billing etc. With ATT tech we activated my new DSL line . ATT claimed it was working but I was not convinced we were on the new line and perhaps still on the old. Before terminating my old DSL line, I spent hours speaking with multiple tech support people (5) at ATT that insured me that my new ling was up and running. The reason I spoke to so many techs is that I could not believe my new line was going to work given that I made no physical hardware changes in my office. I specifically asked each tech if they could temporarily close the port on my old line to make sure I was in fact using the new line. They replied, “We can’t do that.” ( Wrong-they actually can)! I found this out on tech 6 who did so.

Well, to make a long story short I had no DSL yesterday and still don’t as of this writing. Today, I am scheduled for a technician to come out and install a new dedicated box for my new DSL line.

In hind sight, I would try a cable company and divorce myself from AT&T. AT&Ts refusal or inability to make a database name change is intolerable from a business perspective.

Patient Reminder system for Medisoft Office Hours?

Can anyone please recommend a patient reminder system for Medisoft's Office Hours Pro and how much systems like this cost?
